A FILM FULL of MUSIC, DANCE and LOVE:
7 HUSBANDS FOR HÜRMÜZ
EL HUBB
freehearted and unconditional love
Ezel Akay (EZOP) is the story-teller of the movie 7 Husbands for Hürmüz, produced by 5. Boyut Studios and re-written as a film script by Gürsel Korat who is inspired by the original drama of Sadık Şendil...
It took 3 weeks in total to shoot the film, which is proud to feature Nurgül Yeşilçay, Gülse Birsel, Haluk Bilginer, Erkan Can, Memet Ali Alabora, Sarp Apak, Cengiz Küçükayvaz, Öner Erkan, Cem Karakaya, Ezel Akay, Müjdat Gezen, Erol Günaydın, Zihni Göktay, Halit Akçatepe, Betül Arım, Pınar Çağlar Gençtürk, Nihal Menzil, Görkem Ece Ercan, Dilek Yorulmaz, Selen Görgüzel, Selahattin Taşdöğen, Çetin Sarıkartal, Aral Seskir, Vokaliz and Shaman Dance Group.
In this film, where love as well as money affairs are joyously presented in the Taşkasap district of Istanbul at the end of the 19th century, the beauty Hürmüz maintains her economical status by allocating it to 5 husbands
Gürsel Korat stands for the script which can be considered as a complete re-composition. Ezel Akay, stating that they have tried hard for having the womanly soul more deeply incorporated in the whole film when compared to Sadık Şendils text says Gürsel Korats cute woman slang turned the text into a very cheerful as well as a surprising one. Our co-work with Gürsel brought new characters and scenes to the text.
7 Husbands for Hürmüz, for which a huge shooting set of 7.000 m2 is established to enable the construction of Old İstanbul neighborhood, Mansion and Turkish Bath, has become the first movie of the last 35-40 years, shot totally in a studio environment.
Ezel Akay describes the film as a surrealistic musical comedy and reports that 3 major scenes which appear at the beginning, midst and end of the film and where a big group of woman-only acts have each become a mini-musical with their own dialogues, songs and dancing. In this surprisingly contemporary film, an unexpectedly young musical-world is created where different styles and ryhthms of Classical Turkish Music as well as traditional folk songs of Istanbul, Black Sea and Thrace regions are presented.
Akay explains that, in order to cope with the special atmosphere of the stage setting and the story, all actors and actresses have gone through a special coaching process performed by Cetin Sarikartal. He adds, Script has given such broad space for acting that each actor / actress could freely perform his / her own show...
Distinctive costumes are designed for the film; mischievous and canny ones for women, daring but juvenile ones for men... The extraordinary make-up application is based on the misé-en-scene in the story-tellers imagination.
Special choreography design enabled the interesting as well as joyful dancing scenes in which all actors and actresses next to the professional dancers have taken part.
This remarkable movie holding a budget of 2,5 million TL and presenting such an extraordinary cast, costume-design, story and story-teller, will be across cinemas across Europe on 10.12.2009
