Nefes is the story of 40 soldiers under the command of a captain who are responsible for the protection of a military guard post located in Karabal hill very close to the Iraqi – South East border of Turkey.
Those young people have to outperform an extremely difficult task of protecting the motherland by keeping ready, awake and alert for a mortal combat that might take place any second while surviving the very tough natural conditions of a desolate corner of the country. But at the same time they experience and have to deal with the challenges from their own life abroad; all the grief, joy, sorrow and problems…

“You from Hatay, from Samsun, from Istanbul, from Erzurum; you won’t sleep, won’t eat, but will fight! But at the same time you will comfort your mother and not let her cry, you will keep your lover with your voice not to let her go away, you will not lose your job and money… In short, whether here or there, you will survive!”

Nefes, with the touching companion of those individual and common stories of the soldiers, allows us to witness the military and human aspects of Guneydogu issue, one of the most important elements of Turkish Republic agenda, in a quite objective and unprejudiced manner.



About The Movie
Film flows in a way that we will fall “breathless”; extremely striking combat scenes of a high visual expertise creating an epic war-realism as well as shocking dialogues, all underlined by an intense and impressive humanism. Nefes, based on all those features, will be discussed extensively in public and most probably have a very important place in Turkish cinema as a war-film: “You die, if you sleep!”

The script belongs to Levent Semerci (director of the film), Mehmet İlker Altınay and Hakan Evrensel, the latter being the writer of the book named “Stories from South East” (the story that the script is based on). 40 actors / trainee actors who were military-trained for several months comprise the cast of this film which is shot mainly in Tahtalı highs in Antalya.
